Written by Susan Hanson | Dec 08, 2014

(GTG) announces its formal launch and première in New York on December 8, 2014.

The non-profit will share their goals to Educate, Empower, Engage and Energize people across the globe to take action for girls worldwide. Girls Thinking Global is embarking on a visionary journey to create a global network serving women and girls, to leverage resources – monetary, in-kind, and communicative – to ensure that every possible dollar and resource is used to improve the quality of life for adolescent girls worldwide

The launch event also premières their first International Documentary highlighting the work of the Jungle Mamas, an exemplary program which is part of The Pachamama Alliance. Jungle Mamas trains indigenous Achuar women and adolescents in the Ecuadorian Amazon to become birthing attendants, reducing maternal and neonatal mortality across the region.

Girls Thinking Global was founded by Kathy Hurley, a Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative Fellow, Deb deVries, a former Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Executive, Cassandra Walker and Elizabeth Texeira, recent Harvard Graduate School of Education alumnae in the International Education Policy program. GTG has been working out of Harvard Business School Innovation Laboratory since June 2014, and became incorporated in August of 2014.

“I am proud to be a part of the New York City launch of Girls Thinking Global,” stated Gillian Sorenson, United Nations, Former Assistant Secretary General and 2014 Harvard University Fellow. “Girls Thinking Global is collaborating with organizations world-wide to share expertise, experiences, and resources resulting in deeper impact to the girls they serve.”

GTG has created an interactive, online, global database of organizations working with adolescent girls that non-profits can use to be matched with mentors and mentees and to find strategic resources. They will be using case studies and documentaries to highlight exemplary organizations in the field, using these to create awareness and disseminate best practices.

Girls Thinking Global will also host an annual summit to further highlight the work that these women, girls, and organizations have undertaken across the globe. As part of the annual summit Girls Thinking Global will host an awards program recognizing individuals and organizations that have brought advancement and opportunities to girls and women worldwide.

Girls Thinking Global is striving to be an advocate for issues facing adolescent girls, sharing relevant stories, events, and advocacy campaigns from around the world through their online presence and monthly newsletter, increasing the global discourse around the issues facing girls and women every day.

Girls Thinking Global became a reality when they held a Kickstarter campaign and raised an amazing $20,223, all of which was used to cover the cost of their first international documentary highlighting Jungle Mamas. You can view more about them here: http://www.pachamama.org/advocacy/jungle-mamas
