K-12 TechDecisions Unveils Comprehensive Series on Gaming

Education Industry Leader Mitch Weisburgh Tapped to Write Series on Games in Education

New York – New York (June 16, 2015)  K-12 Tech Decisions, leading website provider of cutting-edge education technology information, is pleased to announce that it will host a series on games and gaming in the classroom by education gaming authority Mitch Weisburgh, Co-Founder and Director at Games 4 Ed, a non-profit committed to studying and breaking down the barriers to ubiquitous gaming in the classroom.

“We are delighted that Mitch has agreed to write a series of articles on game-based learning. This is such an important and timely topic. We feel that as more games enter the classroom, this article series will help our readers to be ahead of the curve,” said K-12 TechDecisions Editor, Chrissy Winske.

“Game-based learning has tremendous potential to increase engagement, help teachers assess students while they learn, and allow students to be creative in a low-risk environment,” said Weisburgh. “The use of games in the classroom is on the verge of huge expansion, and I’m pleased to bring the conversation to the K-12 TechDecisions audience.”

Mitch will explore the way games are used in schools today: how schools find games, and how they are incorporated into lessons and curricula. The series will lay out the following:

  • Research on games for learning
  • Technical issues that teachers and districts should keep in mind when they consider games
  • Implementation and integration of games into the curriculum
  • Student Assessment with games

“More than 60% of teachers use games in the classroom today,” Weisburgh explained.  “To date games are mostly supplemental to instruction, but we have reason to believe that will change soon. The barriers to game use in the classroom need to fall away if we are going to prepare the next generation to fulfill their roles in society.”

The first article is available today through K-12TechDecisions.org.
