INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indiana Department of Education and myON have announced a partnership, making thousands of book titles available for migrant students and families.

Since May 2014, the IDE has opened seven migrant education centers. Their goal was to successfully identify and educate the state’s entire migrant population.

The myON is a program that encompasses an online library that is able to track and collect data that they then use to enhance education directly with students.

With the announced partnership, migrant families have access to over 5,000 new digital book titles from the myON website. Titles range from picture books, to first readers, to novels, classic literature and informative texts.

According to the myON website, families and students have access to these titles any day, any time, for free. And there is no limit to the amount of times a specific title can be checked out to different students at the same time.

The Dept. of Education says that in the testing stage of this program, migrant students borrowed over 26,000 titles, and spent 4,000 accumulated hours enjoying those books off the myON library.

The goal for this partnership is that these fully available and free books will help bolster an already rich educational program for children.

The migrant education program is a federally-funded program.
