28 approved courses available to secondary schools and students to access high-quality college prep curriculum

Odysseyware, a leading online curriculum provider, has been granted “A-G” approval by the University of California (UC) for 28 of its online courses. The courses provide personalized instruction and a media-rich curriculum in core subject areas and electives as well as Career and Technical Education (CTE) that enable students to satisfy eligibility requirements for enrollment in the UC system and prepare for advanced study.

According to the University of California, A-G approved courses “are to be academically challenging, involving substantial reading, writing, problems, and laboratory work (as appropriate), and show serious attention to analytical thinking, factual content, and developing students' oral and listening skills.”

The A-G subject area requirement is a combination of college-preparatory courses drawn from history/social science, English, math, laboratory science, foreign language, and visual and performing arts, as well as other electives that students must complete in order to apply for the UC. Courses from California high schools and online schools used to satisfy the A-G subject requirements must be approved by UC. Online course publishers are responsible for obtaining this approval on behalf of the schools, districts, and programs that purchase or license their courses. UC grants a three-year term to all online courses that have been approved for A-G purposes.

To receive this approval, Odysseyware courses have to meet two criteria: alignment with the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL) Standards for Quality Online Courses, as well as a rigorous review by the UC.
