Alive Studio’s animal-themed augmented reality lessons help kindergartners make leaps in learning in only 26 days. Teacher Greg Smedley-Warren at J.E. Moss Elementary in Nashville (TN) teaches a kindergarten class that is 90 percent English language learners (ELLs). After only 26 days of integrating Letters Alive Plus, the students’ letter and sound recognition went from fewer than 10 to all 26. After using the program, he says, “Ninety percent of students read at grade level or higher and are reading earlier in the year.” The Letters Alive Plus kit incorporates evidence-based reading instruction through the use of AR software. The lessons and activities are presented within an animal-filled theme, which helps tie science into every lesson. Smedley-Warren says that his students’ engagement in the program has been “amazing” and he adds, “it also builds excitement for school, which is vital for our students at the beginning of the year.”
