INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Hoosier students get ready to read for free in 2016, thanks to the Indiana Department of Education.
Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz said the department will provide free access to thousands of books online for students this year. It’s all part of the department’s literacy initiative.
The program kicks off on Jan. 1 and goes till Dec. 31, 2016. Students, families and educators will be able to read from more than 5,000 free books online. Books can be accessed through the myON Digital Library.
The Hoosier Family of Readers initiative was created by Superintendent Ritz in 2013 to promote literacy throughout Indiana. This year they hope more than 200,000 books are read to celebrate Indiana’s Bicentennial.
