To help all students hear and be heard, the Sayre Public School Foundation outfits 31 classrooms with microphones and speakers.
The Sayre Public School Foundation has donated 31 new classroom audio systems to Sayre Elementary. The Redcat Access systems include a wireless microphone that teachers wear around their necks and a portable speaker that can be placed anywhere in the classroom.
The donation was inspired by Stephanie Huckaby, an elementary school teacher who previously taught at a school that used the Redcat Access. Huckaby requested and received a Redcat Access for her classroom through an annual teacher's grant from the Foundation.
Seeing how the system allowed Huckaby to be heard clearly without raising her voice, Foundation President Jeannene Blevins approached Sayre Elementary Principal Cody Huckaby about the possibility of donating more classroom units.
According to Principal Huckaby, “The Redcat Access helped Stephanie’s students hear every word she said no matter where they were sitting in the classroom. I knew I wanted that for all of my teachers, and everyone at Sayre Elementary is deeply grateful for the donation from the Sayre Public School Foundation.”
The purchase was made possible through a donation to the Foundation by Bill Talley, a former student of Sayre Schools. Foundation President Blevins said, “Our mission is to inspire student success with imaginative teachers’ grants and innovative programs, and the Redcat Access is a great example of both. Many students in our schools have diagnosed or undiagnosed hearing impairments, and these systems will help those students hear better, contribute more in class, and ultimately learn more.”
The Sayre Public School Foundation was founded it 1992. The Foundation’s endowment earnings are awarded to teachers and schools each year through grants. Targeting students, the Foundation augments or enriches programs not otherwise funded by the school district.
