As educators, we all know we can’t be everywhere at once. Technology is making that one-on-one attention that kids need a little easier through customized learning and digital devices. Finding quality material can be taxing though, as not all ed-tech companies are created equal.

I was excited to learn that Kids Discover, the non-fiction social studies and science company, has created a new online portal titled Kids Discover Online that allows users to access all of its materials.

Kids Discover Online “offers ad-free, high-quality, nonfiction reading materials vetted by subject experts from leading institutions.”

It is a tool that may be used by teachers and students to further enrich the online learning experience.

According to Ted Levin, CEO of Kids Discover, the online version is an extension of today’s classrooms.

“In 2014 we set out on a mission to answer one question: ‘What does the modern classroom look like?’ We knew we wanted to offer up our entire nonfiction library in digital form, but more importantly we wanted to create an experience that educators and students would want to use on a weekly basis.”

To utilize the new platform, teachers may log-in to Kids Discover Online to access older material or information that’s more relevant to what’s being taught in the classroom. Once the system is accessed, teachers may filter the content into different categories that may fit their lesson plans.

The reading material available differs from easy to hard, and students may select their preferred reading level. Teachers have the same option and may assign a reading level to a certain student.

Discover Kids Online aligns with Common Core and State Standards. But more than anything, this is a tool to help students take the next step towards becoming stronger in these subjects. It also empowers them to learn through the reading tools – and gives teachers custom options based on the student.
